Happy #WorkWednesdays, everyone! This week’s question comes from Gemma on YouTube who asks:
Hi, Cheri! As someone who kind of stumbled into the marketing/branding/growth industry, I’ve come to be interested in how to advance to that next level. I’ve followed you for years and know you sort of stumbled and succeeded your way into it as well. At the moment I find myself scared to take the next step in my career (i.e. looking for better titles/better pay/more responsibility) because I’m not super confident in my abilities just yet (I’ve only worked part-time and in internships so far). Do you have any tips or recommendations on how to gain more confidence and/or on what someone like me can do to take the next step in their career? P.S. Sorry for the super long question. Just wanted to make sure it left no room for confusion lol. – Gemma
It’s all in your mindset, Gemma. Once you know exactly what it takes to get that promotion, it’s basically in the bag. That is, if you’ve got the balls to make it happen.
Don’t get stuck in the same crappy job forever just because you think you don’t deserve something more. Set career goals for yourself and achieve them. Actively earn your promotion with those goals in mind. And if you get turned down? Maybe it’s not you. Maybe it’s the crappy company you work in!
Watch this video and get a better understanding on how to get that promotion. Don’t be afraid to go after what you want. I’m not. Good luck, Gemma!
If you have questions for me related to growth hacking, marketing, branding, careers, and more, drop me a comment! I’m listening. See you next week.
