“What sort of modeling do you want to get into?” Jeremy asks as he pours me a bowl of bird food (raw nuts and dried fruit). We’re both waiting patiently for Jennifer Toy, my makeup artist, to put the finishing touches on my face.
“I’ve humored the idea of fitness and lifestyle modeling,” I mumble, trying not to move too much for fear of disrupting Jennifer’s beautification progress. “But I’m not much of a model, I think. I’m a writer. More of a ‘personality’. And all of the shoots I’ve done in the past are so sexy and scandalous. But that’s not really me, y’know? I mean, maybe a little, but…”
“Then what sort of photos are you looking for?” Jeremy sets the snack food into my lap, flopping down onto a couch nearby. Feeling through the bowl blindly, careful not to make any sudden movements, I lift what feels like a cashew into my mouth, chewing it thoughtfully and swallowing it down before speaking again.
“I want something bubbly,” I announce. “Something cute. Silly. Colorful. I’m a smiler. A laugher. I’m always cheerful. Like, full of sunshine. I want my photos to reflect that.” I chew through a piece of dried pineapple, then add, “But I want something smart too. Something elegant. Or peaceful.” I can hear Jeremy murmuring his assent while I weigh an almond in my palm, lifting it carefully past my newly applied lipstick to nibble off a piece of it. “I just, y’know — I want my photos to be me.”
Now, I’m no expert, but I’m pretty sure we nailed the whole “show my personality” thing. It was nice to be on a set where I didn’t have to take myself too seriously, and where the focus wasn’t consistently “try to look smoldering hot” (not that I don’t enjoy a little flirting with the camera once in a while).
I had fun. Working with Jeremy Cortez was a total blast. He had me laughing, spinning, dancing around in front of the camera, making silly faces, and even bursting out with a few silly noises. Having the freedom to just be myself really brought out the best of me, and I am absolutely looking forward to recreating this same sort of personality-filled enthusiasm with my future photo shoots.
And okay. Let’s get real. I realize I have a lot of readers and fans who see me as a hot piece of ass (thank you to polite perverts everywhere for the traffic your clicks bring me), but I think my real readers, my core readers who’ve been following me for years or who know me from my ridiculous YouTube videos, various published pieces online, and jaw-dropping blog posts, my people know that I’m more of a silly, happy-go-lucky, and not-afraid-to-make-a-fool-of-herself goofball.
This shoot was way more my style. I’m more of an entertainer, anyway.
So, you tell me. Are you feeling entertained yet?
