Bah! The job hunt here is insane.
I really don’t think it matters how many people are actually going out of their way to help me out — I’m probably never going to find anything. And yes, yes, I know. “Don’t have that kind of attitude, Cheri!” “Keep your chin up!” “You can do it!”
Yadda, yadda, yadda.
Trust me, I’m trying.
I seriously believe that my best bet will be going to art school and either pursuing a degree in Illustration (which is what I actually want to do), or settling for Graphic Design (which is where all the money is).
Either way, it’s not like I can’t dabble in both and see which one tickles my fancy more, right?
Anyhoo, off to grab my coffee and put this portfolio together for WonderCon 2011 this weekend.
I have tickets for all three days! :D
I’m gonna be storing my best work via iPad and hitting up all of these portfolio reviews during the event, meeting up with other artists and doing art trades, etc. Should be good times. I’m even bringing a few old sketchbooks with me that I’ve filled up to kind of give people an idea of what I’m capable of via traditional mediums!
… And I have to say, while I love my digital work, my freaking pencil work is where it’s at.
If you’re going, let me know and we can possibly meet up!
And if you’re not going, get your tickets now! They are surprisingly cheap.
I’ll even draw a quick illustration for you if you bring a sketchbook or notepad with you! No charge! :D … But only because I was late in registering and wasn’t able to sign up for my own booth where I can overcharge all of you anyways. Herp derp. :3 Lucky you?
I’ll be Tweeting where I am constantly during the event, so if you’d like to meet up with me (or even if you’re walking by and spot me randomly), please don’t be shy! Just come right up to me, say hello, and let’s gab! I’ve already met so many of my fans/readers/viewers in person, and it’s always such a pleasure to hear how excited y’all are. So please don’t be nervous!
Standing at a good 5’1 and weighing in at 93lbs, I sincerely doubt that I’ll be intimidating.
Come say hello and score your free art from me! Bring a sketchbook so I can draw in it. :3

Ugh, I need to get my shit together and move to California already. It’d be so much easier to go these things and meet cool people (such as yourself!). I’m so sad I can’t get a sketch from you. I know you’re all into the art thing these days but have you given any thought to going to IMATS in June and doing a meet up with your makeup loving readers?
I was thinking about it? I’m actually not sure who really watches my Makeup stuff anymore, haha! Much less, who’s watching my Makeup stuff and is going to IMATS as well. :X
There’ll be one person there at least, (assuming my boss lets me off for a couple days) do a new video when you’re bored, I’m sure you’ll get tons of people saying how happy they are that you posted something. I actually sent a girl I work with to watch your videos when she was asking me tons of makeup questions and she said they were super helpful. I’m not sure if she posted to tell you that or not, so in case she didn’t, now you know ;-)
I don’t remember anyone posting to tell me that, but that’s awesome! I’m glad I could help her out, and also glad that you were kind enough to pass on the word. :3
Sounds exciting, if i went I’d probably spend all of my money on pointless things (had that problem at comic con) Also I have no idea what goes on at wondercon. Is it nerdy stuff? then i’d probably go since I feel more free when I’m with my own people.
I wish you luck on your conquest of finding your dream job. I also transfer to you 10 confidence points to help you approach Ryan Reynolds.
I’d usually say more but I cant think of anything else.
*closes eyes and posts anyway*

Right?! I’m going to try to not bring much money wiff me. Maybe $40 at the most.
… Maybe. XD
I mean, who knows?! I might come across a really cool art book and want to buy it! I don’t know!
WonderCon seems to be mainly an Artist thing — like comics, independent artists trying to get their name out there, etc. It’s not like a huge gaming event or anything. Just a smaller convention to kind of fill the gap between the big ones like anime con, comic con, etc etc.
Anyhoo — thank you for the confidence points! Haha. <3
doesn’t sound like my thing, as a writer I’d just be lost. but spending money would be fun, guess I’ll save up for another convention in Cali.

i have no interest in wondercon, but i’m considering it just to have you draw something for me. damn it cheri!
C’monnnnnn DOWN!! Free art for everyoooone! WOOT! <3
Awww, I’m so sad! I love your drawings and I’d love to meet you and get a sketch but I think I have to work this weekend! :(
And don’t worry, you’re gonna go at your own pace to find out what you truly want to do that will make you happy, whether that be school or something completely different :)
P.S. Yayy for short people!
Have fun at work. X_x
And yeah, right? Like, what if I don’t even do art? What if something completely random and out of the blue happens to me and I decide to do that? Life works in mysterious ways. Sigh.
Blah. I’d definitely rather be relaxing this weekend or meeting you!! :)
You’ve hit the nail right on the head! I, too, am pretty clueless what I truly want to do and it’s both scary and exciting at the same time. Like you said, something completely random can happen; you never know where you’ll end up. Just take it one step at a time and have fun along the way! =)
I know alot of that may sound cliche, but as long as you believe in yourself, you’ll be just fine.
One step at a time.
Have fun.
GOT IT. Ha. :X
One step at a time.
:)
And GREAT job on you latest drawings! Keep em coming!
Thank you! I was worried I was maybe overloading you guys with too much art. But I’m glad everyone seems to like them so far! Heh.
You’re welcome!! Nah, you’re really talented so it’s great seeing new material all the time. Honestly, your blog is always very interesting, so whether it be a review, a drawing, or just saying how your day was, I always find it interesting! :)
AAAAAAAWWWW!!!!!! >_<!!! Thank you!!!!! :3 :3 :3
I really mean it! =)
Okay, time for bed. Lemme know how WonderCon goes! I’m excited for more Cheri posts!
Happy Friday!
Happy Friday to you too!!! And good niiiiight. <3
Much <3
So how was WonderCon?? :)
Does it make you want to go to art school even more now?
Yeah, actually! I met a cool art student who was really insistant that I go to school regardless of how good I am (and he was commenting that I was extremely advanced) — so it was encouraging!
eee xD
im starting graphic design diploma
next month :D
Exciting! Let me know how it goes and if you like the classes.
Haha, I had to start a new thread because when I hit reply to your last one, it was so skinny that I couldn’t see what I was typing.
I guess the art student just confirmed what me and all your fans have been saying all along…that you have FANTASTIC artwork and that it’s really advanced! I guess that means you gotta start listening to us more ;)
So does that mean you’re staying in beautiful SF for school? :)
It really depends on what comes first. A few people from different companies have been contacting me for game artist jobs, so that might be happening instead? But I’d like to go to school too … So who knows what’s going to happen, really!
Look atcha! You know things are pretty good when you have TOO many opportunities! I wouldn’t necessarily just go with what comes first, but rather what benefits you the most, but that’s just my opinion. Perhaps both the game artist jobs and school? So proud of you!! :)
Bah. I never believe anything until I have it in writing these days. Tired of people promising me things and never following through. :/ But yes, that would be the plan.
Ah good point, too many flaky people these days. Don’t worry, regardless what happens, I know you’ll make it :)
